Role of the shock absorber in via ferrata
The spendthrift shock device (S.S.D.) reduce the impact fall.
If it doesn’t function or be wrong setted, the shock would be biggest with serious
injuries on spinal column, with a gear completely brocken and at last fatal.
Reduce the impact energy to be not dangerous for the body is the main rule in V.F.
All the gear is conditionned for that safety rules.
It’s the reason why , anybody would be wrong by making himself V.F. gear. You must believe to industrial gear. Industrial gear is correctly tested and follow the highest safety rules.
Actually there are two S.S.D. :- by an iron path where safety rope will slide (see top picture) ;
- folded sewn strap which will come unstitched by the shock energy. ( see picture in the bottom, safety strap is in a bag).
